Markets Turn Volatile Metal Shines - Dec 03, 2008

The markets have turned volatile after witnessing a tug of war between the IT and Metal stocks. The benchmark indices have swung dramatically into red after languishing in green in the very early hours of trade. The markets pared early gains as bearish sentiment continues to prevail. The downtrend has continued despite of a rally in the benchmark Asian indices.

This depicts that the domestic investor sentiment is unrest over the impact of US recession. Selling is being witnessed in the sectors like IT, FMCG, Auto and Realty, whereas the Metal and Capital Goods index are trading in positive zone. The market breath is favoring advance, as 715 stocks are trading in red and about 907 stocks in green on the broader BSE.

At 11.36 AM, the BSE Sensex is losing by 3 points at 8735 whereas NSE Nifty by 7 points at 2650. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 22 points and 4 points at 2828 and 3257 respectively.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are HCL Tech down by (5.04%) at Rs.118.75 along with Idea Cellular by (3.24%) at Rs.46.30, Wipro Ltd by (2.66%) at Rs.226.80, Ambuja cements by (2.52%) at Rs.52.15 and Bharti Airtel by (2.25%) at Rs.655.75.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are wipro Ltd down by (2.40%) at Rs.227.25 along with Bharti Airtel by (2.18%) at Rs.656.35, ONGC by (2.03%) at Rs.650.00, Infosys Tech by (1.96%) at Rs.1,186.00 and Hindalco by (1.63%) at Rs.51.15.

BSE IT index is battered by (1.56%) or 38.52 points at 2,437.28. The major losers are HCL Tech trading down by (5.19%) at Rs.118.75, Financial Tech by (4.97%) at Rs.515.20, Wipro Ltd by (2.30%) at Rs.227.50, Infosys by (2.17%) to Rs.1,183.55, followed by Satyam Comp by (1.59%) to Rs.229.35.

BSE Metal index is trading higher by (3.27%) or 140.97 points at 4,445.87. The top gainers in the index are NMDC increased by (13.57%) to Rs.141.00, Tata Steel up by (9.38%) to Rs.162.60, JSW SL by (6.81%) to Rs.187.50 followed by Ispat Ind by (3.96%) at Rs.10.25 and Gujarat NRE by (3.49%) to Rs.22.25.
