Power And IT Stocks Are Higher In The Opening Lower - Nov 12, 2008

The markets open lower today on the back of weak global cues. Further the investors will also keep an eye on the crucial IIP data, which is schedule to be announced around noon. Industrial growth is expected to be between 5-7 per cent in September from the 13-year low of 1.3 per cent in August. The selling pressure is seen among the Realty, FMCG, Auto, Pharma Oil & Gas and Banking stocks. However, the Power and IT stocks are trading higher in the opening trade.

The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap are also trading lower and in line with the benchmark index in the early trade.The Asian markets are also trading in deep red as Nikkei, Hang Seng and Straits Times index are trading lower by 1.31%, 1.87% and 1.24% respectively.

The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 9,800 mark and the NSE Nifty is hovering around the 2,900 mark.

The US stock market on Tuesday, continue to close lower for the second day due to concerns over the corporate earnings and economic fears as oil''s drop below 59 dollars that lead to the belief that the economic slump may deepen. These all factors have weighed heavily over the news of a government plan to help prevent foreclosures. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped by 176.58 points to close at 8,693.96. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index decreased by 35.84 points to close at 1,580.90 and the S&P 500 (SPX) slipped by 20.26 points to close at 898.95.

The overall market breadth is negative as 509 stocks are advancing whereas 950 stocks are declining on BSE.

Tata Power reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (5.23%) at Rs.792.10 while DLF reported the top loser down by (5.17%) at Rs.253.80.

At 10.33AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 94.56 points at 9,745.13 and the Nifty was down by 25.25 points to 2,913.40.

The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 23.20 points to 3,333.50 and the BSE Small Cap slipped by 28.71 points to 3,859.30.

BSE Realty index is trading lower by 91.88 points or (4.16%) to trade at 2,116.83. The top losers are DLF decreased by (5.47%) to Rs.253, Unitech down by (4.90%) to Rs.48.55, India Bull Real declined by (4.52%) to Rs.124.75 followed by Ansal Infra fell by (4.04%) to Rs.42.75.

BSE IT index is trading higher by 17.46 points or (0.66%) to trade at 2,652.34. The major losers are HCL Technologies inclined by (1.79%) to Rs.156.80, Mphasis up by (1.49%) to Rs.167, TCS increased by (1.31%) to Rs.533 followed by Satyam Computer grew by (1.28%) to Rs.272.65.

SAIL is trading lower by (2.93%) at Rs. 76.10. The steel maker said it may cut output as demand for vehicles, homes slump and commodity prices tumble.

ONGC is trading lower by (4.34%) at Rs. 703.90. ONGC on Tuesday entered into a memorandum of understanding with Uranium Corporation of India Ltd. (UCIL) for joint cooperation in uranium exploration and development.
