The markets today open higher in line with the Asian markets. The selective buying is seen among the Banking, Oil & Gas and FMCG stocks. However, the Realty, Consumer Durables, Metal, Capital Goods and Power stocks are trading lower. The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap are however trading lower in the early trade.
The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 8,700 mark and the NSE Nifty is trading above the 2,650 mark.
The Asian markets are also trading mixed as Shanghai Composite, Hang Seng and Straits Times index are trading higher by (0.36%), (3.41%) and (1.16%) respectively. However, the Nikkei 225 is trading lower by (0.92%).
The US stock market on Tuesday, ended mixed even though the government’s plan to boost consumer lending to unfreeze credit markets & buy mortgage-related debt by creating a two new programs that totaled upto $800 billion. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) advanced by 36.08 points to close at 8,479.47. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index decreased by 7.29 points to close at 1,464.73 and the S&P 500 (SPX) grew by 5.58 points to close at 857.39.
The overall market breadth is positive as 481 stocks are advancing whereas 551 stocks are declining on BSE.
Sterlite Industries reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (3.93%) at Rs. 212.70 while Ranbaxy Laboratories reported the top loser down by (2.19%) to Rs. 199.15.
At 10.33AM, the BSE Sensex was up by 40.23 points at 8,735.76 and the Nifty was up by 8.25 points to 2,662.25.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 19.96 points to 2,852.63 and the BSE Small Cap slipped by 17.26 points to 3,316.16.
BSE Oil & Gas index is trading higher by 42.87 points or (0.79%) to trade at 5,452.24. The top gainers are Essar Oil increased by (1.63%) to Rs.68.50, Gail India up by (1.38%) to Rs.197.80, Cairn India inclined by (1.04%) to Rs.136.50 followed by RPL and ONGC grew by (0.83%) and (0.79%) to Rs. 72.85 and Rs. 691.
BSE Bank index is trading higher by 26.53 points or (0.61%) to trade at 4,391.53. The major gainers are ICICI Bank inclined by (4.13%) to Rs. 333.15, HDFC Bank up by (2.86%) to Rs.858.95, Yes Bank increased by (1.97%) to Rs.62.10 followed by Kotak Bank grew by (0.55%) to Rs.312.90.
