The markets today got a flying start with a heavy gap up on the back of positive cues from the global markets. All the sectorial indices are trading in green in the opening trade. The IT, FMCG, Oil & Gas, Metal, Banking and Realty stocks are in huge demand in the opening trade.
The inflation for the week ended October 18 came in lower than anticipated at 10.68% as against 11.07% week-on-week.
The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap are also trading higher with a gain of more than 2.5% each.
The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 9700 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 2900 mark.
The US stock market on Thursday closed higher with the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to remain above the 9,000 level, on the back of the government report that the US economy shrank less than forecast in the third quarter and the central bank moves to relax capital markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) surged by 189.73 points to close at 9,180.69. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index increased by 41.31 points to close at 1698.52 and the S&P 500 (SPX) grew 24 points to close at 954.09.
The overall market breadth is positive as 1086 stocks are advancing whereas 376 stocks are declining on BSE.
HDFC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (11.85%) at Rs.1,680.05 followed by Wipro up by (10.88%) at Rs.284.25.
At 10.33AM, the BSE Sensex was up by 721.20 points at 9,765.72 and the Nifty was up by 208.50 points to 2,905.55.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 89.20 points to 3,183.79 and the BSE Small Cap advanced by 92.15 points to 3,766.77.
BSE IT index is trading higher by 196.71 points or (7.27%) to trade at 2,902.48. The top gainers are Wipro increased by (10.86%) to Rs.284.20, HCL Technologies up by (9.02%) to Rs.165, TCS inclined by (8.20%) to Rs.587 followed by Infosys Technologies grew by (7.17%) to Rs.1,396.20.
BSE Oil & Gas index advanced by 395.59 points to trade at 6,073.92. The major gainers are Aban Offshore inclined by (9.31%) to Rs.768.25, Cairn India up by (7.46%) to Rs.125.25, ONGC increased by (5.85%) to Rs.686.25 followed by RPL grew by (4.14%) to Rs.84.25.
India''s largest oil producer ONGC is trading higher by (5.85%) at Rs.686.25. ONGC has reported a 5.7% drop in quarterly profits at Rs.4,888 crore for the second quarter of 2008-09 that missed forecasts mainly due to the subsidy burden to state refiners.
