Markets The Benchmark Indices Are Purely - Oct 6, 2008

The markets have breached their 52 week low mark and continued to trade in red with no sign of recovery. Domestic cues like inflation data and N-Deal are making no impact on the markets. The benchmark indices are purely following the foot steps of the US and Asian markets. Selling pressure was witnessed across the sectors. Both the indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty are trading down by 3.6%. Selling pressure has emerged across some counters particularly Metal, Capital Goods, Oil & Gas, Realty, Bankex, Consumer Durable, IT stocks. The market breadth is negative as 1875 stocks are trading in red while 293 stocks are in green.

At 11.25AM, BSE Sensex is trading lower by 452 points at 12073.86 and NSE Nifty is trading down by 139 at 3678.4. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lesser by 187 points and 204 points at 5260.88 and 5575.82 respectively.

Losers from the NSE Nifty are Gail India plunged by (34.05%) at Rs259.7, Sterlite Industries down by (10.53%) at Rs355 along with Tata Power (10.39%) at Rs794.95, DLF Ltd (9.20%) at Rs305.4, Tata Steel (8.82%) at Rs358.35, Unitech (8.20%) at Rs102.95.

Losers from the BSE Sensex are Jaiprakash Asso plunged by (11.11%) at Rs103.2, Sterlite Industries down by (10.09%) at Rs355.8 along with Tata Power (9.74%) at Rs801.95, DLF (8.86%) at Rs306.3, Tata Steel (8.71%) at Rs359.5, Reliance Communications (6.59%) at Rs311.25 and Reliance Infra (6.46%) at Rs693.35.

The BSE Metal index is trading lower by 554.92 points at Rs7862.19 as scrips trading lower are Jindal Steel (10.09%) at Rs1035.00, Jai Corp Ltd (10.00%) at Rs202.60, Sterlite Industries down by (9.79%) at Rs357.00, along with Tata Steel by (8.37%) at Rs360.85, JSW Steel is trading down by (7.95%) at Rs378.00, and Welspun Gujarat SR by (6.71%) at Rs233.40.

The BSE Capital Goods index is losing by 496.08 points at Rs9742.91. Scrips trading lower are Praj Industries (10.61%) at Rs103.25 followed by Areva by (7.12%) at Rs1244.00, Elecon Eng (6.93%) at Rs83.25, BHEL (6.62%) at Rs1463.00 and Alstom Project by (6.06%) at Rs354.40.
