Markets Are Trading Sharply Lower Tracking - Oct 10, 2008

The markets are trading sharply lower tracking the extremely weak cues from markets across the world on concern for global recession. However, the RBI has cut the Cash Reserve Ratio by 100 basis points on Friday to 7.50%. Strong selling pressure is continued across the board mainly led by the Capital Goods, bank, Oil & Gas, Metal, and Reality stocks. All the BSE Sensex stocks are trading in red. The BSE Sensex is trading below the 10,100 mark and the NSE Nifty is below the 3300. The BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap stocks are also trading lower with a cut of more than 7% and 6% respectively.

The overall market breadth is negative as 2119 stocks are declining while 254 stocks are advancing and the 33 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.

ICICI Bank Ltd reported the top loser from the BSE Sensex pack as it was trading down by (19.96%) at Rs.363 followed by Jai Prakash Associate down by (14.90%) at Rs.77.40.

The BSE Mid cap is lower by 323 points at 3,867.39 and the BSE small Cap slipped by 315 points to trade at 4,383.81.

At 12.30 pm, BSE Sensex was at 10,388.43 down by 939 points and the NSE Nifty was at 3,248.40 down by 265 points.

BSE Capital Goods index dropped by 845.30 points at 7,948.07 as Jyoti Structure (18.33%), Elecon Eng C (18.20%), Punj Lloyd (16.19%), Walchand In (13.33%) and Usha Martin (12.86%) are trading in red.

BSE Oil & Gas index is trading 536.78 points lower at 7,259.68 as Aban Offshore (15.04%), Cairn India (11.15%), Essar Oil (9.81%) and RNRL (9.03%) are trading in negative.

BSE Bankex index is trading lower by 528.86 points at 5,243.81. Losers are ICICI Bank (20.62%), Yes Bank (15.14%), IDBI Bank (8.37%) and Karnataka Bank (7.56%).

BSE Metal index slipped by 516.41 points to 6,693.05. The main losers are Welspan Gujarat SR (15.77%), Gujarat NRE C (15.76%), Sesa Goa Ltd (12.07%), Tata Steel (10.11%).

BSE Realty index slipped by 228.38 points to 2,615.96. The major losers are Orbit Co (16.56%), MAhindra Life (14.98%), Housing Dev (14.69%), Anant Raj (12.95%) and Penland Ltd (12.33%).

BSE Consumer Durables index declined by 199.44 points to 2,180.71. Leading to its fall are Videocon Ind (14.69%), Gitanjali GE (9.73%), Titan Ind (9.31%) and Rajesh Export (9.28%).

BSE Pharma index declined by 194.89 points to trade at 3,149.48 as Sunpha Adv (18.33%), Lupin Ltd (14.23%),Opto Sircuit (13.76%) and Divis Lab (13.57%) trading in negative.

BSE Power index was trading 120.49 points lower at 2,107.19. The main losers are GMR Infra (17.82%),Suzlon Energy (15.18%), Reliance Infra (15.05%), Reliance Power (10.87%)
