The markets today got hammered in the opening trade on the back of sharp negative cues from the global markets. The BSE Sensex opens with a gap down of more than 700 points and the NSE Nifty with a cut of more than 200 points. All the sectorial indices are trading in deep red in the opening trade. The Realty, Metal, IT, Consumer Durables Power and Capital Goods stocks are trading in deep red.
The BSE Sensex is trading below the 12700 level and the NSE Nifty around the 3900 mark.
The overall market breadth is negative as 163 stocks are advancing whereas 1754 stocks are declining on BSE.
JP Associate reported the top loser from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a loss of (8.64%) at Rs.124.80 followed by Reliance Communication down by (7.02%) at Rs.333.70.
At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 630.58 points at 12,632.32 and the Nifty was down by 176.45 points to 3,831.80.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 263.64 points to 4,875.99 and the BSE Small Cap slipped by 296.97 points to 5,917.78.
BSE Realty index dropped by 306.59 points or (7.68%) to trade at 3,685.34. The top losers are India Bull Real decreased by (13.10%) to Rs.182.50, Mahindra Life down by (12%) to Rs.356.40, HDIL declined by (10.47%) to Rs.191.50 followed by Unitech fell by (8.10%) to Rs.117.40.
BSE Metal index slipped by 536.64 points or (5.47%) to trade at 9,278.29. The major losers are Gujarat NRE, Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa and Ispat Industries fell by (12.63%), (9.32%), (9.04%) and (6.52%) to Rs.58.10, Rs.535, Rs.102.10 and Rs.19.35 respectively.
Reliance Communication is trading lower by (7.02%) at Rs.333.70. The company along with Research in Motion (RIM) has launched the country''s first prepaid Blackberry services on both GSM and CDMA models.
ONGC is trading lower by (1.72%) at Rs.961.95. The refiner will invest $5.3 billion in developing gas finds in two of its eastern offshore Krishna Godavari basin blocks to produce 25 million standard cubic meters per day of gas by 2013
