Markets are trading lower as investors are taking calculative steps ahead of inflation number for the week ended 23rd August 2008 due to be released today evening. Indian Markets opened on negative note and was showing some sign of recovery after mid session but slipped further to extend its losses. Selling pressure is mainly contributed by Metal, Oil & Gas, Reality and Capital Goods stocks. However some buying is visible in IT, Pharma and Auto stocks. Among the Sensex pack, 23 stocks are declining and 7 stocks are advancing.
At 1.31PM, the BSE Sensex is trading at 14,825.48 lower by 224.37 points and NSE Nifty is down by 68.10 points at 4,435.90.
The BSE Mid Cap is trading lower by 17.46 points at 5,819.55 and Small Cap is down by 7.42 points at 6,974.97.
Lossers from the BSE are Sterlite In trading lower by (3.86%) at Rs612.00 in line with HDFC Bank Ltd by (3.13%) at Rs1,299.40, ONGC by (2.98%) at Rs1,068.75, HDFC by (2.94%) at Rs2,373.15, Reliance by (2.63%) at Rs2,155.25, Reliance Infra by (2.40%) at Rs1,016.70, HUL by (1.78%) at Rs242.60 and Ranbaxy Lab (1.74%) at Rs481.80.
The BSE Metal index is trading lower by 204.47 points at Rs12,177.18 as Sterlite In is trading down by (3.86%) at Rs612.00 along with Hindustan Zinc by (3.73%) at Rs567.00, Gujaat Nre C by (2.98%) at Rs100.85, JSW SL (2.93%) at Rs737.00 and Steel Authority (2.79%) at Rs150.00.
The BSE Oil & Gas index is trading lower by 181.64 points at Rs9,844.32. Scrips trading down are ONGC (2.91%) at Rs1,069.50 followed by Reliance by (2.47%) at Rs2,158.80, Essar Oil Ltd (2.10%) at Rs214.85, Reliance Nat Res (2.03%) at Rs94.30 and Reliance Pet by (0.75%) at Rs158.60.
From the telecommunication sector, Tata Communications is trading up by (1.85%) at Rs436.05 while Idea Cellular is trading down by (1.38%) at Rs82.30 followed by Reliance Com Ltd by (1.32%) at Rs339.60 and Bharti Airtel by (0.90%) at Rs827.10.
In auto sector Hero Honda Motors is up by (3.45%) at Rs889.70 followed by Maruti Suzuki by (2.22%) at Rs680.00, while Tata Motors is trading lower by (1.42%) at Rs423.70 and M&M Ltd is down by (0.20%) at Rs584.25.
From cement sector Ambuja Cement is trading higher by (2.52%) at Rs83.50, followed by ACC Ltd up by (1.12%) at Rs593.40 and Grasim Indus by (0.86%) at Rs2,018.00.
