The market is trading on the backfoot after a strong start to the session. The investors are taking calculative steps to book their positions ahead of IIP figures scheduled today. From the sectoral front, IT, Bankex, Realty and Oil & Gas are facing the selling pressures. The market breadth is weak as 1326 stocks are trading in red while 868 stocks are trading in green.
At 11.32AM, the BSE Sensex is trading lower by 214.18 points at 14,110.11 and NSE Nifty is trading down by 34.15 points at 4,256.15. The BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading lower by 52.16 points and 35.87 points at 5,595.04 and 6,783.06 respectively.
The wholesale price index-based inflation rose 12.10% in the week ended 30 August 2008, below the previous week’s annual rise of 12.34%. The annual inflation rate was 3.72% during the corresponding week of the previous year.
Leading the rally from the losers pack of BSE are Infosys trading down by 5.96% at Rs1644.80 along with IVRCL INF by 5.31% at Rs273.90, REI Agro by 5% at Rs1061.90, Patni Comp by 4.57% at Rs216, Indian Bank by 4.48% at Rs129, United Spirits by 4.40% at Rs1294 and Aditya Birla Nuvo by 4.04% at Rs1132.95.
The Bankex index is trading lower by 112.84 points at 7,097.82. Pulling it are ICICI bank trading down by 2.53% at Rs669.05 along with Kotak bank by 2.06% at Rs597.60, SBI by 2.04% at Rs1507, Oriental bank by 1.65% at Rs178.65, Yes bank by 1.60% at Rs138, IDBI Bank by 1.40% at Rs87.75, Axis bank by 0.84% at Rs698 and Allahabad bank by 0.63% at Rs63.30.
The Oil and Gas index is trading with loss of 80.61 points at 9,259.13. Scrips that are trading lower by RNRL by 2.41% at Rs89.10 in line with Reliance industries by 1.93% at Rs1959, Gail India by 1.21% at Rs421.55, RPL by 1.13% at Rs153.75, Essar Oil by 0.84% at Rs188.50 and Aban Offshore by 0.73% at Rs2305.25.
Tata Communications is trading higher by 1.59% at Rs446.1. The company yesterday launched Global VPN Extended Access Service and the service extends Virtual Private Network access to customer sites in over 150 countries that donot require dedicated links. Apart from this, the company has also earned four designations from Cisco - Powered Managed Firewall, Managed IDS/IPS, Managed Internet and Managed MLS VPN.
Tata Power is trading up by 1.41% at Rs1028.05 as the company has drawn up a aggressive growth plan to add 10,000 mw of generating capacity in the next five years. According to company’s chairman Ratan Tata told shareholders at the company''s 89th annual general meeting (AGM) "We have chalked out aggressive growth plans for the addition of 10,000 MW of power generation capacity in the next five years. We have completed financing of the 4,000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) at Mundra in Gujarat and 1,050 MW Maithon power project in Jharkhand,"
