The market today open with marginal gain and suddenly slipped down to trade in the negative territory as selling pressure emerged in the selective scrips. The selling is seen in the Bank, FMCG, Auto and IT stocks. However, the Consumer Durables, Metal, Power and Realty stocks are trading in green in the opening trade. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are also trading higher and have outperformed the benchmark index in the opening bell.
The overall market breadth is positive as 810 stocks are advancing whereas 744 stocks are declining on BSE.
HDFC Bank reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (5.74%) at Rs.1,088.40 while NTPC the top loser down by (3.05%) at Rs.173.
At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 61.80 points at 14,225.41 and the Nifty was up by 5.50 points to 4,318.85.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 23.89 points to 5,604.91 and the BSE Small Cap advanced by 9.09 points to 6,936.70.
BSE Bank index dropped by 118.69 points to trade at 6,403.93. The major losers are AXIX Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI and Bank of India fell by (3.62%), (2.20%), (2.10%) and (2.08%) to Rs.655, Rs.1,068.50, Rs.1,357.50 and Rs.266 respectively.
BSE Metal index advanced by 75.40 points to trade at 12,774.10. The top gainers are Nalco increased by (1.27%) to Rs.443.65, Tata Steel up by (1.15%) to Rs.637.40, Sterlite Industries inclined by (1.09%) to Rs630 followed by Hindalco Industries grew by (0.93%) to Rs.141.25.
Suzlon Energy is trading higher by (5.49%) at Rs.230.65. The company has posted a 97% growth in its Q1 consolidated net profit of Rs.39.4 crore as against Rs.20 crore.
