MUMBAI: The rupee eased in early deals on Friday with dealers focusing on cues from some weak Asian equity markets which would likely weigh on local stocks, and spur some overseas investors to cut positions in local assets.
At 9:05 am, the rupee was at 39.63/64, a touch weaker than the previous close of 39.61/62.
Asian stocks fell on Friday after the US Federal Reserve Chairman said risks to US economic growth had increased, while global credit concerns resurfaced after a steep ratings downgrade of a US bond insurer.
India's benchmark share index climbed 4.8 per cent on Thursday, its largest rise in nearly three weeks. Shares of state-run oil firms led gains after the government announced it would raise the retail price of fuels.
