ONGC, RIL lead market higher

MUMBAI: Equities opened on strong note on Wednesday taking cues from global markets. Oil majors ONGC and Reliance Industries led the gainers while IT shares were beaten down.

At 10 am, Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was up 1.07 per cent or 208.23 points at 19,608 and National Stock Exchange's Nifty was up 73.35 points or 1.27 per cent at 5,859.

Major Sensex gainers were ONGC (up 3.02%), Reliance Industries (2.62%), ICICI Bank (2.18%), Ambuja Cement (2.05%) and State Bank of India (2.04%).

Infosys Technologies (down 3.28%), Wipro (1.51%), Satyam Computer (1.45%) and Hindustan Unilever (1.20%) were the major losers.

Market breadth remained positive on BSE with 811 advances and 146 declines and on NSE there were 580 gainers and 307 losers.

Elsewhere, the rupee opened strong at 39.26, appreciating 0.05 from its previous close.
