MUMBAI: Equities opened higher Monday morning tracking positive global cues. Shares of consumer durables, cement and oil companies led the advances. At 10:10 am the Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was up 117 points or 0.59 per cent at 19,815.5. The National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was up 28 points or 0.47 per cent at 5934.45.
“After making a low of 5744 last Monday, Nifty bounced back sharply and made a high of 5966. Nifty finally closed at 5906 with a gain of 4.29% w-o-w basis. Today, Nifty has resistance in the range of 5948 to 5966. If it breaks this level, it could test our short-term target of 6011 levels. It has support at 5887 and below that 5817,” said Emkay Share & Stock Brokers in a note to its clients.
MTNL (up 3.09%), ITC (2.97%), Grasim Industries (2.55%), ACC (2.48%) and HPCL (2.1%) were the biggest index gainers. Wipro (down 0.84%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.43%), HDFC Bank (0.36%), Satyam Computer (0.28%) and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (0.17%) were the biggest losers. The BSE Mid-cap Index was 1.74 per cent higher and the CNX Mid-cap Index was up 2.23 per cent.
The market breadth showed 925 advances and 150 declines on NSE, while on BSE, 1562 shares advanced and 212 shares declined.
