Vodafone Not To Buy Bharti Infratel

Vodafone boss Arun Sarin is in India once again to sort out tax issues with the government. While the tax problems remain unsolved Arun Sarin did clarify on the sidelines that despite all the reports Vodafone has no intention of picking up a stake in Bharti Infratel. Arun Sarin was in New Delhi Monday to meet India''s Finance Minister P Chidambaram. The chief of the world''s largest mobile company was late for his appointment with the Finance Minister. And by then the Finance Minister was already meeting Economic Advisory Council Chairman C Rangarajan. So Sarin stepped out without meeting the minister. But what about the taxation issue, many believed that had brought Arun Sarin to India in a matter of merely 16 days.

But other than the troubles, Arun Sarin is also looking at expanding his business in India and will that mean picking up a stake in Bharti Infratel, the tower Subsidiary of Bharti Airtel. We have our own tower business, not to pick up stake in Bharti Infratel, said Arun Sarin, CEO Vodafone. However after a hectic day of lobbying, Sarin did manage to meet both the Finance minister and the Finance Secretary in the evening. But what remains to be seen is that how soon can the taxation issue really be resolved, especially since the matter will be up for hearing on the 15th of this month in the Mumbai high court.
