MUMBAI: Another historic day for the market - in just one week, the Sensex has rallied 1000 points to the 17000 mark, with leadership from Reliance group companies. Technology, market laggards, also participated in the last lap, driving the Sensex to a record high of 17,025.07 early Wednesday.
At 10:05 am, the Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was up 89 points or 0.53 per cent at 16,988.78. Biggest Sensex gainers were Satyam Computer (up 1.71%), Wipro (1.66%), ICICI Bank (1.34%), Infosys Technologies (1.29%) and Hindalco Industries (1.19%).
Index losers comprised HDFC Bank (down 1.12%), Maruti Udyog (0.4), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.15%), Ambuja Cements (0.07%) and Tata Motors (0.03%). The National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 4962.3, higher by 24 points or 0.47 per cent from the previous close.
