MUL unveils Grand Vitara

New Delhi: Maruti SUV is back with a bang. After an 18-month hiatus, Maruti Udyog on July 5, announced its comeback to the SUV passenger car segment by unveiling the new Grand Vitara. Priced modestly at Rs 13.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the manual transmission model and Rs 14.8 lakh for the automatic transmission model, this car replaces the earlier Vitara, which had a price tag of Rs 18.28 lakh (manual transmission). The erstwhile Vitara was, however, more powerful with an engine capacity of 2600 cc whereas the renamed SUV has an engine capacity of 1995 cc

In order to keep the previous Grand Vitara's off-road character, the new version incorporates a ladder frame into the unibody structure for an extra measure of off-road performance. Thus it still delivers a carlike highway feel. Off-road ability is further enhanced by full-time four-wheel drive with a locking center differential. It has three driving modes: "High Range" acts like a full-time all-wheel-drive system; "High Range Lock" locks the center differential for more demanding conditions like mud or snow; and "Low Range Lock" is for taking on the most serious off-road duties. This one is equipped with enough power to rock on both on off-road and on-road. Thumbs up to you lad!
